Solving the World's biggest problems by accelerating open innovation on its ledger: Ethereum.
Ethereum has the most mature blockchain infrastructure for building real-world solutions, yet it remains underutilized by institutions working on global challenges. Many initiatives tackling issues like digital identity, humanitarian aid, and financial inclusion still lack the tools, support, and ecosystem engagement needed to succeed. This is a significant missed opportunity for both Ethereum and the broader world.
Ethereum For The World was launched to close this gap. By connecting Ethereum’s infrastructure and developer community with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ETH FTW provides resources, funding, and coordination to turn early-stage ideas into impactful onchain solutions.
Ethereum’s potential to drive real-world change has been clear for years, but the ecosystem faced three core challenges:
Without solving these issues, Ethereum risked being overlooked as a serious option for institutions addressing pressing global problems.
ETH FTW is beginning to show how Ethereum can drive sustainable outcomes by channeling resources, funding, and coordination into SDG-aligned initiatives. The program has created the foundations for scaling real-world solutions while strengthening Ethereum’s role as a platform for global impact.
We mapped over 200 SDG-aligned, blockchain-relevant challenges using UNDP data and field experience. Most are at the idea or pilot stage, making them a perfect fit for Ethereum’s infrastructure and developer ecosystem. To fund these opportunities, ETH FTW is running dedicated Gitcoin Grants rounds designed to support 10–18 MVP-stage projects with allocations between $5,000 and $30,000. Using quadratic and impact-based funding mechanisms, via Karma and Prosperity Pass, capital is distributed fairly and transparently.
ETH FTW launched as a platform to fund and support builders working on real-world solutions. It creates visibility, coordination, and a clear onramp into Ethereum’s ecosystem for impact-driven projects. In its first phase, ETH FTW has:
Some of the early outcomes of ETH FTW include:
ETH FTW’s vision is to make Ethereum the default blockchain for sustainable development. By leveraging Gitcoin’s funding mechanisms and building partnerships with institutions, we aim to fund and scale thousands of impactful projects that address global challenges.
The long-term strategy includes integrating with development aid pipelines, launching an ETH FTW Investment Fund, and progressively scaling funding capacity from hundreds of thousands to hundreds of millions. With ETH FTW, Ethereum is not just building financial infrastructure, it is proving its value as the world’s ledger for meaningful, real-world impact.
